Most of the time low-risk women go on to have a low-risk labor and birth. Occasionally even for low-risk women, complications can occur. Most of these can safely be handled at home, however some do require transfer of care to a physician at a hospital.
A list of complications that we have handled are:
- Low lying placenta
- Infant resuscitation
- Shoulder dystocia
- Maternal hemorrhage
- Prenatal Down’s Syndrome diagnosis
- Prolonged rupture of membranes
- Maternal dehydration
- External version
- Meconium aspiration syndrome
- Dysfunctional labor (hypertonic, hypotonic)
- Under water births
- C.P.D.
- Nuchal Cord (cord around the neck)
- Uterine infections
- Fetal distress
- Gestational diabetes
- Placental abruption
- Polyhydramnios
- Transient tachypnea
- Pre-eclampsia
- Difficulty delivering placenta
- IUGR
- Placenta previa
